Tiny Flower Big Results

I was so happy when I discovered that something so simple actually worked. My 4 year old son got a wart on his thumb and I was trying different types of pharmaceutical remedies on it to ease the discomfort and to get rid of it, but it only seemed to be getting bigger and bigger. I think it bothered me more that I let this wart into his life’ (don’t we mom’s carry around a lot of unnecessary blame), than it actually bothered my little boy. But nevertheless I just couldn’t rest till it was gone.
One night I had remembered this short video clip I’d seen about how there are natural remedies right in our back yard that we don’t even know are natures own medicines, and there was a brief mention of the dandelion’s milky sap and a thistle’s sap from the stem being able to dissolve warts and other skin problems. So I decided to try it out. I picked 4 to 5 dandelions every day on our way home from the park and just kept them in water to keep them fresh, and about 4 or 5 times a day I put the white sap from the dandelion stem on his little wart and in about 4 days, it had completely dissolved. I was so amazed, and so happy, and so was my little Tony.
What a lovely little yellow flower. You all might already know about this trick and other special remedies, it would be great to spread the information. I was so thankful and happy I wanted to share this with you. Natural remedies are my favorite, they sometimes take a little longer than the synthetic ones, but they seem to have a longer lasting effect, and what’s best, I feel a sense of satisfaction knowing I’m helping my children heal naturally and in a non-toxic way.
Here’s the video with some substantial tips. It’s very short and has a little pitch at the end, but I really enjoyed viewing it.
Tell us what you think and share some natural remedies that have worked for you.

Summer Fun: No need to break your piggy bank!

With Summer here, I know what it’s like as a mom to want to make the Summer fun, exciting, memorable & activity filled for the children, and of course at the same time somehow stay out of the heat! (ha) There’s so much fun to be had during the warm summer months, and I’ve often had the urge to go crack open my ‘piggy bank’ and go to the fanciest amusement park, or get a new bigger pool for the back yard, and try to plan something cool for my kiddos that costs what I would consider an investment in fun. I thought that that would be one way to show the kids that I was really trying to make things fun with all my heart.
A few things that my children have said to me over the years have changed my ‘summer urge to raid my piggy bank’. I often felt that “cool” equaled something that costs more money than usual (I know you’re probably laughing at my silliness), I suppose that concept comes largely from the ‘stereo type movie idea of an awesome vacation’— And I still think those are awesome as well, but there was one summer when I offered the idea of going back to the huge amusement park with the largest water slide in Tokyo to my 7 year old, and he replied, “oh mom, but lets go to the beach and pitch our little tent and collect sticks for a fire.” My little girl said “mommy can we just make a yummy snack and play dress-up for the summer.” I argued with them about how cool the amusement park was… and then realized that the ‘money we spent on something cool’ was not the issue for them, they sincerely had other ideas of fun. After I explored all their thoughts and ideas, I realized, hey, true fun is what truly makes them feel like they are having fun, and their lists of summer ideas were great. I still love taking them to those biggy places and do things that I run to that ‘piggy’ for, but I’ve taken a good hard look at what my definition of true fun is, and made sure I was open to accepting that there are so many things to do that can end up being the ‘real kinda fun’ that don’t have to cost colossally.
I’ve jotted some things that have been a major hit with my kiddos. You might already do all of these with your children, but I’ll just put a few down here that are simple and doable. There are also lots of ideas out there on the web, here’s one site that I’ve referred to a couple times that had some handy little ideas for me. http://www.funattic.com/game_summer.htm
10 Fun Summer Ideas For Kids & Parents
Treasure Hunt. This doesn’t sound like much but the kidz love it when we hide things around the house and they have to find them through ‘hint papers’ (little riddles taped around the house, that tell them where things are hidden’). Or better yet, a couple of the kidz hide the snacks or toys and the other of them find the hidden items.
Baking day. My little pre-schoolers especially love baking cookies and cakes, and making their very own shapes. After the batter is done, they spend an hour or more just making there own shapes for the cookies. And they’re so proud when they’re done.
Water fights. Little water balloons and water guns out in the back yard or at the park are so much fun. (of course we have that little talk about how real guns are not good etc) Put on some old shorts and a T-shirt and have some wild fun with the children. It does a mom lots of good to laugh real hard with her kidz.
Special dinner night. Planning a special dinner with the kidz from start to finish, and taking the day to write the menu, go shopping with all the kiddos and making it together. (everyone rotated playing with the youngest little one)
A special family movie and fun snacks.
Family Uno game. Uno doesn’t seem like such a big, cool game. But the kidz love it when mom and dad and everyone can join into together. Even little miss 5 & Mr.4 year old can play real well now.
Painting a family mural with a Summer theme. On a large sheet of paper, everyone can paint anything they want to about Summer time. Its loads of fun seeing everyone’s personality come out in a drawing or painting. Post it on the wall as memorabilia.
Marshmallow cook out in the kitchen. Whether outside by the river, or in our very own kitchen, Marshmallows are always a hit and lots of fun for the kidz to BBQ and make toasty brown, or burnt black.
Horse back riding. A couple times we were able to go horse back riding and the children loved it. I found that the children seem to become quite calm and attentive when around pets and animals, or at zoo’s, and it’s great time to teach them to be considerate of each type of animal and what they might like/need.
Back yard obstacle course. We don’t have a yard at the moment, but when we did in Japan, we would make our very own obstacle course with chairs, benches, logs, and toys. The kidz would hop over, jump, walk on and run through, and we’d time it to see who get done that fastest. Loads of fun competing.
